Baz finishes off the season in style!’ – May 2018

The Durham and Cleveland season has now drawn to an end, and in true fashion the county descended upon Norton again for the D&C County Presentation evening on Friday 11th May. Redcar have had a great season. For the first time the club entered 5 teams into the men’s leagues, with our 5th team holding their own in Division 5 and finishing a solid 5th out of 8 teams (all the fives!). The 4th team also secured promotion out of Division 5 and will join our 3rd team in Division 4 next season.

There were also personal achievements too. Barry Corbyn has had an amazing season. Moving up the nominations to represent our 3rd team, Barry claimed the prize of top points scorer for Division 4. This also added onto an already stellar season which saw Barry enter the newly structured County Closed competition in January 18, coming a close runner up to Max McDonald of Norton in the Men’s C event. Both achievements, alongside the dedication he gives to the club, were recognized by the county, and Barry was awarded the Men’s Player of the Season 2017/18!!

Well Done Baz!

‘Club Championships April 2018’

Our yearly Club Championships were held a little earlier than usual, finishing in April rather than May this year. As always there was a strong level of entries across both competitions. The early rounds claimed some surprise casualties, but the remaining participants battled through until there were only 2 remaining. Congratulations to all of our winners/runners up:

Men’s Club Champion: Darren Nalton

Runner Up: Gareth Rutherford

Ladies Club Champion: Maria Maley

Runner Up: Mhari-Louise Maley

Plate Winner: Jack Kerr

Runner Up: Simon Mawson

‘County Closed 2018’ – January 2018

Huge congratulations to Barry, Sam and Maria in last night’s County Closed Championship Finals at Norton. Unfortunately, they were just pipped to the post in their events by Norton’s Max McDonald, Paul Langley and Yarm’s Karen Clark. A great night with some amazing squash, with Redcar Club Champion 2017 Danny Hockborn retaining his County Closed crown. Thank you to all those who came down to support!

‘Squash Blitz Takes a Hold at Redcar’ – December 2017

The second ‘blitz’ took place at Redcar in December 2017. Inspired from the Isle of Man competition, the blitz allows those who don’t usually travel to the island to get involved in something closer to home! The club saw a great level of entries for the event, with lots of spectators down to cheer on the teams. As with all competitions there are winners and losers, but all was played in great spirit! A sterling effort put in by all, but Jack Kerr sealed his team’s win with a stellar effort to be top points scorer overall! Congratulations!
